IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV UK: Set-Up Guide

British IPTV Team 5 min

To use IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV in the UK, install an IPTV player from the TV's own app store, enter your Xtream Codes or M3U details, and play. Where no suitable player is listed for your model, a Fire TV Stick or an Android box on an HDMI port does the same job. This guide sets out the routes, the steps and the fixes, for Samsung TVs that run Tizen.

In short

  • Samsung Smart TVs run Tizen. The app store lists IPTV players for some models and regions.
  • Some players ask for a one-off activation on their website using a code shown on the TV.
  • If no player is listed for your TV, a stick or box on HDMI is the usual route.
  • Samsung is not connected with British IPTV.

Step 1: Check your TV

Press the Home button and open Settings to check the software version and make sure the TV is updated. In the same menu check the date and time, because a wrong clock can stop apps from loading lists. Note the model name; the year of manufacture is in the model code and affects which apps are offered.

Step 2: Find a player in the store

Open Apps from the Home screen and use the search icon to look for IPTV players. Availability changes: apps appear, disappear and move between Tizen versions, so a player you read about may not be listed for your TV. If a compatible player is listed, install it. IPTV Smarters Pro is one example, where it is offered for your model, and it is named only as a compatible player. If you bought Premium, the AromaOtt app has its own device list at aromaott.com, so look there first.

Step 3: Enter your log-in

Open the player and choose how to log in. If it offers Xtream Codes, enter the server address, username and password; if it offers a playlist link, paste your M3U link. Entering long text with a TV remote is slow. If your TV and the SmartThings app support a phone keyboard, use it, and otherwise type the link in a note on your phone and read it out as you enter it. If the player gives an activation code instead, note the code and device ID, go to the publisher's activation page on a computer, and add the playlist there.

Step 4: Set the guide and quality

Look in the player's settings for the time zone or EPG offset, and for stream quality. A TV with a 4K panel can show a 4K stream if your plan and broadband allow it. See broadband speed for IPTV for how much capacity to plan on.

Picture settings that suit live programmes

Samsung TVs offer several picture modes. For live programmes a Standard or Movie mode usually looks more natural than a vivid showroom mode. Motion smoothing can make sport look odd, and you can reduce it in the picture settings. Game mode lowers delay, which helps nothing here. The picture can only be as sharp as the stream, which depends on your plan and your broadband.

Region and language

Samsung stores differ by region, which is why a player listed in one country can be missing in another. Check that the TV is set to the United Kingdom in the general settings, because a TV set to another country shows that country's apps. If you bought the TV abroad or moved it, this is a common reason for a missing player.

If no player is listed

Plug a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box into an HDMI port and use the player on that. It brings its own current app store, a separate remote and more memory than many Smart TVs have. See IPTV on a Fire TV Stick or choosing an Android TV box.

Fixing the common problems

  • The app is not in the store. Check the TV model and region, update the software, or use a stick or box.
  • The app opens, then closes or shows a black screen. Restart the TV, uninstall the app and reinstall it. Check the date and time.
  • The list does not load. Re-enter the log-in carefully, and ask support to check the account.
  • The picture stutters. Try a cable if the TV has a network port, bring the router nearer or move to the 5 GHz band, then follow IPTV buffering or freezing.
  • The guide shows nothing. Work through IPTV EPG not working.

Tidying up

Remove players you no longer use, so that updates do not slow the TV down. Keep the log-in details in a private note, because TV apps are awkward to re-enter. If you change TV, install the player on the new one and use the same log-in, within the number of screens your plan allows.

Samsung and British IPTV

Samsung is a trade mark of Samsung Electronics, and British IPTV is not affiliated with it. The Smart TV page has the plans, and LG TV owners should read IPTV on an LG Smart TV.
